A choice few minerals in your box will exhibit magnetic properties. Magnetite is strongly magnetic, meaning that it will react with a magnet and with iron objects that are not magnets, such as a nail. Hematite will in many cases react with a magnet, but not with an iron object, meaning that Hematite is magnetically susceptable but it is not a magnet itself.
