| Dr. Kihm earned his B.S. degree in 1973 from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a major in Biology. He was elected the first president of the Lamda Omicron Chapter of Beta Beta Beta, the national honorary society for undergraduate biologists. He earned an M.S. degree in Geology (Paleontology) from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 1975. He recieved his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado with a degree in Geology (Vertebrate Paleontology). He began teaching at Minot State in the Fall of 1984 where he has taught a variety of introductory geology courses in addtion to advanced courses in paleontology and stratigraphy. He was elected to the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology in 1973 and to Sigma Xi in 1985. He is a Life member of the North Dakota Academy of Science, for which he served as President in 1997-98. His research interests are early Tertiary mammals of western North America. Current research projects include latest Eocene small mammals from southwestern North Dakota in cooperation with the Pioneer Trails Regional Museum in Bowman, North Dakota.
