Dr. Webster earned a B.A. degree in 1981 from Hope College with majors in geology and chemistry. After a year in the oil patch (as a mudlogger and well-site geologist), he earned his M.S. degree (geology) in 1985 from Indiana University. He worked for two years as a geochemist with the Illinois Geological Survey from 1994-1996. Dr. Webster returned to Indiana University where he earned a Ph.D. (igneous petrology) in 1992. He started teaching in 1990 at the University of Minnesota-Morris, where he spent three years. He then taught at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside for three years. Dr. Webster arrived at Minot State University in 1996. In addition to teaching introductory courses, he has taught a variety of upper-level courses, primarily hard-rock courses (mineralogy, optical mineralogy, petrology, structural geology), geochemistry, and hydrogeology. He was also been involved in teaching summer field geology through the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology for 10 years (1991-2000).
